Vice President and UTM President Saulos Chilima today hinted the party is proceeding to enter into an electoral alliance with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Dr. Chilima made the remarks today afternoon during a political rally the UTM held at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.
According to Chilima, the alliance between the two parties has been made to achieve the 50+1 rule.
“We have agreed to put Malawi first. There will be sacrifices to make this alliance work,” he said.
He, however, could not disclose who is to lead the alliance saying this will be known later.
The two parties will have a signing ceremony on Thursday next week.
“We should not rush disclosing who will lead the alliance, but be assured that this is a win-win alliance as both parties have one agenda: to bring change in the country”, said Chilima.
Among others, the vice president reiterated that once in power, they will ensure that the country achieves food security, where a majority can afford three meals day.
The rally saw President of Umodzi party Professor John Chisi, George Mnesa of Mafunde and former DPP politician Yunus Mussa joining the party.
